广州经济技术开发区是首批国家级开发区，依托中国华南地区经济、文化、交通、信息、金融中心－－广州，开发区位于珠江三角洲中心地带，这里是中国最富庶，经济最活跃，购买力最强和中国最重要的制造业基地。

广州科学城是广州高新区的核心园区，城市总体规划面积为 37.47 平方公里，于 1998 年 12 月 28 日 正式奠基启动。是广州未来五年内大力投资的重点项目之一，也是电子信息、生物医药等高技术企业、大学研究院集聚地。广东软件科学园在科学城是配套齐全的软件企业办公区域，具有明显的优势。
科学城的定位： 21 世纪的标志性科技工程、未来广州最适宜创业发展和生活居住的现代化生态园林城市的样板区、现代化新型城区和休闲旅游景点。
科学城分为六大区域：微电子信息产业区、生物技术产业区、新能源新材料产业区、中心区、高尚住宅区、市政设施及其他产业区。重点发展产业为：计算机及软件、生物医药、光电子、新材料、环保产业。
到 2004 年底为止，科学城累计引进高科技项目 489 个，其中外资项目 98 个，合同利用外资 11.3 亿美元，引进内资高科技项目 391 个，投资额（按注册资本） 49.94 亿元。引进项目科技含量高，一批电子信息、生物医药、新材料和光机电一体化等项目，投资规模大，其中包括投资额达 5.86 亿美元的“南科”集成电路晶元片项目和“索尼电子”、“光宝”、“南方高科”、“金鹏”等项目。另外，国际企业孵化器、科技创新基地等一批重大项目已投入使用。配套商业服务机构，包括四大国有银行已在园区设立分支机构，形成了良好的产业创业服务环境。

Guangzhou Science City
The Guangzhou Science City is the core industrial park of the Guangzhou Hi-Tech Industrial Park. With the total planning area of 37.47 square kilometers, the city was officially launched on Dec. 28 th , 1998, and it is one of the key projects that attract huge investment by Guangzhou in the next five years. It is also the gathering place for hi-tech enterprises in the fields of electronic information, biomedicine etc, as well as the academe. GSSP has a distinct advantage of providing fully equipped office zone for software enterprises.
The orientation of Guangzhou Science City is to become the symbolized technological project in the 21 st century, the model for modernized ecological garden cities which meets the demands of business establishing as well as inhabitation, a new type of modernized city area and scenic spot for leisure travel.
The Guangzhou Science City has been divided into six zones, namely the Microelectronic IT Industrial Zone, the Biotechnology Industrial Zone, the New Energy and Revelation Industrial Zone, the Central Zone, the Brown Stone Zone and the Zone for Public Utilities and Other Industries. Plus, the Guangzhou Science City is concentrating on developing industries like computer and software, biomedicine, photoelectron, revelation and environmental protection.
By the end of 2004, the Guangzhou Science City has accumulated 489 introduced hi-tech projects, which include 98 foreign investments with total amount of 1.13 billion US dollars according to the contracts, and 391 domestic investments with 4.994 billion RMB according to the registered capital. All these introduced projects have high technology contents, including a set of items like electronic information, biomedicine, revelation and integrated photoelectron, and so on. Meanwhile, there are large dimensions of investments, including the items of Nanke integrated circuit wafer, Sony Electronic, Guangbao, Soutec, Jinpeng etc. In addition, many important projects like transnational enterprise incubator, technology innovation base have been put into operation. And the supporting business service institutions, namely the four state-owned banks have established their branches in the industrial parks, providing a favorable service environment for industries and business establishing.
